What an excellent time to have a bit of an emotional spring clean, get rid of the dead wood and start this season feeling lighter, positive and ready for anything.
So the International Day of Happiness is the 20th of March this year. What does this mean exactly? Are we meant to force ourselves to be happy on this day? Is it a time to notice how miserable we are for the rest of the year? I jest but this day of celebration does bring up a lot of pertinent issues.
So it’s February, and of course that means Valentine’s Day. What are your thoughts about this highly commercialised and much advertised day? Do you love it or can’t be bothered? Or are you single and the day makes you feel a lot of pressure about your single state?
Did you know that September is World Alzheimer Month? No nor did I, but I wanted to take the opportunity to talk about this disease from a very personal perspective. My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s and it has been a very challenging journey for me from the initial upset and disbelief on diagnosis to a calm and peaceful acceptance.
The uncanny thing about stress is that it is accumulative. It starts as little bubbles of anxiety, a feeling of overwhelm and left to its own devises it will grow exponentially unless we make a deliberate choice to ease it.
What about after lockdown? Have you thought about how you want your life to be? We now have more space to step back a little and enjoy thinking time about what we want to take forward, how we want to use our precious time once we are back, full on in the outside world again.
When people are asked what they most want from life, the vast majority of us say that they want to be happy. However how many of us are living happy lives?
Most of us give up on our New Year Resolutions because they are based on obligation, essentially a feeling that we should get fit, should lose weight, should stop smoking but at the very core of it all, we really don’t want to at all.
