What is life coaching?

1082620I find I am asked this question very often, is life coaching like counselling or therapy, and if not why the need?
It’s an interesting one.

The main difference between life coaching and therapy is the premise that in therapy and counselling you are broken in some way and need to be fixed, in coaching we see you as not being broken, in fact you have all the answers and solutions to your problems. Coaching provides a space for you, a space where you are supported, not judged just allowed to talk freely and honestly.

It’s quite interesting that if you stop to analyse exactly when we have one whole uninterrupted hour to talk and focus on ourselves, we find that it is something we don’t actually have. Friends, family and partners can be supportive, however they do, with the best interest at heart, want to advise and project things from their point of view. A life coach is simply there for you, no invested interest, just holding the space for you to talk about the issues, problems and dilemmas that surface in your life. A life coach is on your side assisting you to achieve your goals and often helping you to clarify exactly what it is you really want in life!

The very act of vocalising the thoughts that have been buzzing around your head is very powerful and by expressing these thoughts they are brought out into the light of day. Here the life coach can work with you to look at the different issues that you bring up. There is often a thread and what is interfering or getting in the way of having the work life you want reflects into other areas of your life such as relationships and family.

In life coaching we look at limiting beliefs, beliefs that are preventing you from living to your full potential. We often carry with us beliefs that are effecting our life at a profound level without being aware that they are not serving us. Fascinating stuff!

Life coaching is a journey of discovery. Book your ticket and step on board…
