The Beauty of Youth

5137727Hello, once again I find myself needing to share…

Listening to the radio today I heard that the Institute of Plastic Surgeons are very concerned about the amount of teenage girls that are choosing to have plastic surgery.

I don’t think I’m alone when I say I find this disturbing. In the full bloom of youth, when your body is still growing and developing, to choose to undergo surgery is mind blowing! What makes these young women feel a need to change their physical appearance with such drastic measures?

As a life coach I am always looking for the deeper beliefs and driving forces that condition our choices. What are the limiting beliefs of these young women? Beliefs that make them so unhappy with their bodies that they want to find the solution in plastic surgery? This deep dissatisfaction highlights serious issues, an outward manifestation of negative beliefs based on low self esteem and low self worth. I’m not attractive… I’m not pretty… I’m not enough….

I feel that as a society we have to look at the part we play in this and take some responsibility. Everyday we see and are exposed to hundreds, perhaps thousands of images, adverts and promotions. What are these images saying to these young women ? They are constantly exposed to countless photos of models photo shopped within an inch of their lives and top fashion brands hanging off skeletal bodies?

It is essentially holding up an unobtainable ideal….

Surely we should be nurturing and educating young people to be proud of who they are? Role models that are worthy of respect?

Let’s talk about this openly and honestly and get a discussion going. Let’s try and deal with the cause and not the symptoms… Get positive!

This is the future generation we are talking about and in my opinion they deserve so much better..
